Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of President-elect Trump, said Saturday that she is withdrawing from the Florida Republican race Marco Rubio seat in the US Senate.
“After an incredible amount of thought, contemplation and encouragement from so many people, I have decided to remove my name from consideration in the United States Senate,” X wrote on Saturday.
The newly elected president nominated Rubio as secretary of state.
“I couldn’t be more honored to serve as co-chair of the RNC during the highest-stakes election of our lifetime, and I am truly humbled by the incredible support shown to me by the people of our country, and here in the great state of Florida,” added Lara Trump.

Trump, wife of Eric Trump, son of the President-elect, resigned as co-chairman Republican National Committee earlier this month.
“I’ve read so many of your kind messages and I can’t thank you enough,” Lara Trump said, adding that she has a “big announcement that I’m excited to share in January.”
She said she remains “incredibly passionate about public service and (expects) to serve our country again sometime in the future. In the meantime, I wish Governor DeSantis the best of luck with this appointment.”
The newly elected president had previously pressed DeSantis to name Lara as Rubio’s replacement, a source in his political orbit told Fox News Digital, but later told reporters he didn’t necessarily expect him to pick her.

“It is his choice,” added the newly elected president.
Rubio’s replacement in the Senate will be appointed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and will serve the remaining two years of Rubio’s term.
In 2026, the headquarters will be open for a full six years.

Lara Trump previously said she was “seriously considering” the position, although she wasn’t sure it was right for her.

DeSantis previously said he would appointment until the beginning of January.
Lara Trump did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
