Howie Mandel has apologized to Bill Burr after ambushing the comedian with Billy Corgan during his podcast appearance last month.
He took a few moments during the most recent episode of his Howie Mandel Does Stuff podcastsaying, “I want to apologize. I feel horrible, and I’m sorry, Bill. I’m sorry, Billy. I only tried to do something good.”
“I legitimately thought I was doing something nice, I swear to you. I thought it was funny,” Mandel said, adding that he had “no idea” he would get slammed. He continued, “Bill Burr said I’m a Hollywood whore. I should be proud of that? I’m not. The truth of the matter is, if he feels bad, I feel bad.”
The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to Burr’s rep for comment in response to Mandel’s apology.
Last month, while Burr was a guest on Mandel‘s podcastthe host surprised him with Corgan, the Smashing Pumpkins guitarist who previously revealed that the pair might be related.
The comedian later shared on The Rich Eisen Show that it wasn’t a good surprise, as he doesn’t “like talking about [my stuff publicly].” Burr added at the time, “Howie did what he did because he is a Hollywood whore and he doesn’t care what happens. He could’ve said something and he just brings up all that weirdness.”
The idea for the ambush stemmed from Corgan’s original guest appearance on Mandel’s podcast in November, where he recalled his stepmother once telling him: “Do you know who Bill Burr is?… Bill Burr might be one of the children that your father sired in his days being a traveling musician.”
That led the America’s Got Talent judge to stage a surprise “family reunion” during Burr’s podcast visit, clearly leaving the comedian annoyed. Burr told Mandel at the time, “That’s the thing, he’s bringing [us] in here not because he’s trying to heal the bullshit that we went through growing up. He’s getting [us] here just for the fucking ratings.”
