Senator Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., Was one of the three Republicans who voted against Pete Hegseth on Friday, which was closely confirmed in Novi as Minister of Defense Trump administration.
Other Republican voices “NO” came from moderate Lisa Murkowski, R-Alask, and Susan Collins, R-MAINE, forcing Vice-President JD Vance to interrupt 50-50 to confirm the election of President Donald Trump to run Pentagon.
“The most serious cabinet clerk in any administration is the defense secretary,” McConnell wrote, explaining opposition to Hegseth. “In the face of the most serious threats to American interests of national security since World War II, this position is even more important today.”
“The main opponents closer together to undermine American interests around the world,” he said. “And US military capacity and industrial defense capacity are increasingly insufficient to distract or overcome in great conflict with China or Russia, especially given the actual risk of simultaneous challenges of other opponents such as Iran or North Korea.”

Hegsetth, former Fox News leader, faced questions before his certificate of his disbelief, accusations of sexual abuse and excessive drinking, his previous comments opposed to the women who serve in combat roles in the army and his leadership capabilities.
He married three times, Hegsetth admitted that he was a “serial cheater” before he became a Christian and married his current wife, Jenny. He also originally said that he opposed women in the fight, before he later said that he only opposed the standards for women in the struggle that are different from those for men. Hegsetth further denied accusations of sexual abuse and said he would refrain from alcohol as a defense minister.
McConnell said that “dust on boots” compared to Hegseth’s military service “fails to even distinguish this candidate than several predecessors of the last decade. This is a prerequisite for success. Secretaries with distinguished combat experience and time in the trenches failed. “

McConnell emphasized that Hegsetth, in his testimony before the Armed Forces Committee, “did not address this reality” that now “faces the coordinated aggression of opponents bent on breaking the warrant of US safety and prosperity.”
“President Trump rightly invited NATO allies to spend more on our collective defense. But a candidate who would be responsible for running this effort, they would not even commit to growth of US investment in defense outside the low lane set by the budgetary budgetary Biden administration requirements, “McConnell said.
The senator also said that Hegseth’s testimony lacks “significant observations of how to defend Taiwan or Philippines against the Chinese attack or even whether they believe that they should do so the United States.” McConnell said Hegsetth failed to “articulate in any detail of a strategic vision of dealing with the toughest of long -term threats” from China.

McConnell further noticed the lack of “essential discussion” on “suppressing our opponents” with deeper federation relationships and more extensive defense industrial cooperation. “
