Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag They sued the city of Los Angeles and the Department of Water and Power after losing their home in the Palisades fire.
According to court documents obtained by Fox News Digital, the reality stars allege “inverse condemnation,” a legal concept that allows property owners to seek compensation when the government damages property.
“The Hills” alum She filed the lawsuit with 20 other property owners on Jan. 21, accusing the city of Los Angeles and the utility company of damaging their homes.

The document stated that the Santa Ynez Reservoir emptied on Jan. 7 before the Palisades Fire. The Santa Ynez Reservoir is near the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles.
Pratt, Montag and other plaintiffs accuse LADWP of making “a conscious decision to operate a water supply system with a depleted and unusable reservoir as a ‘cost-saving measure.’
“The plaintiffs have suffered actual and personal property damage, personal injury, loss of use of their homes, loss of income, business interruption and emotional distress and seek fair compensation for themselves in this case caused by the defendant.”
“With the Santa Ynez Reservoir effectively out of commission, hydrants in Pacific Palisades failed after three tanks held one million gallons of water dry within 12 hours,” the complaint states.
The document noted that the system, built by the city of Los Angeles and LADWP, “failed,” causing the plaintiffs to lose their homes.

“On information and belief, the Palisades fire was an unavoidable and unavoidable consequence of servicing the water supply area in and around the Palisades Pacific Ocean as planned and constructed,” the complaint states.
“The system necessarily failed, and this failure was a significant factor in causing plaintiffs to suffer the losses alleged in this appeal.”
Lamwp shared a press release Saying the Santa Ynez Reservoir needed to be drained “to meet safe drinking water regulations and that repair work has slowed the city’s competitive charter bidding process.”

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs are seeking an amount of damages to be determined at trial.
“Plaintiffs have suffered actual and personal damages, personal injury, loss of use of their homes, loss of income, business interruption and emotional distress and seek fair compensation for themselves in this case caused by the defendants.

“Plaintiffs are entitled to recover all costs of litigation and costs with respect to property damages, including attorneys’ fees, professional fees, counsel fees and costs of litigation.”

Pratt and Montag have been open since they lost their home in the Fires earlier this month.
The couple sat down with “Good Morning America” to talk about the shock of their loss.
“Spencer was like, ‘Grab whatever you want to keep,’ and I said, ‘How do you choose? “My brain actually stopped working because I was so overwhelmed by so many things that you can’t replace.

Pratt added: “The worst part was … our kids’ room. It’s so magical. We do story time every night. That’s our routine. There’s so much love in there. Our son’s bed started burning in the shape of a heart. The fire just started like a heart.
The couple said their home and possessions were uninsured and noted that they are among the many Southern Californians who have been dropped from their insurance policies.

As Montag explained in the exit, “We were ‘house poor’ as they call it. We have a house and everything else is a hustle, it’s a grind. So we definitely count every dollar we make.”

Representatives for Montag and Pratt did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
