White House OPM orders all DEI offices to begin closing by end of day Wednesday

WASHINGTON – The federal Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has notified agency and department heads that they must begin taking steps to close all diversity, equality and inclusion offices until the end of the day on Wednesday and to place government employees in those offices on paid leave, Fox News Digital has learned.

Acting Director of the Office of Personnel Management Charles Ezell sent a letter Tuesday night to heads and acting heads of departments and agencies, ordering them that by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, they must:

• Send an agency-wide notice to employees informing them of the closure and asking employees if they know of any attempts to conceal these programs by using coded or imprecise language
• Send notice to all employees of the office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) that they have been placed on paid administrative leave effective immediately after the agency takes steps to close/terminate all DEIA initiatives, offices and programs.
• Remove all outward facing media (websites, social media accounts, etc.) of the DEIA office
• Withdraw all final or pending documents, directives, orders, materials, and capital plans issued by the agency in response to the now-revoked Executive Order 14035, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility in the Federal Workforce (June 25, 2021 .)
• Cancel all DEIA related training and fire all DEIA related contractors

The memo also directed agency and department heads to share with OPM by noon on Thursday, January 23:

• A complete list of DEIA offices and all employees who were in those offices as of November 5, 2024.
• Complete list of all DEIA-related agency contracts as of November 5, 2024
• Each agency plans to fully comply with the above executive orders and this memorandum

By Friday at 5 p.m., agency heads must submit to OPM:

• A written plan for the implementation of the retrenchment action in relation to the employees working in the DEIA office
• List of all contract descriptions or staff job descriptions that have been changed since 5 November 2024 to disguise their association with DEIA programs
