TikTok was available to some US users on Sunday after the president was elected Donald Trump said he will sign an executive order on Monday after his inauguration to delay a federal ban on the app.
In a statement about Xthe company wrote that it will restore access to its American users.
“In agreement with our service providers, TikTok is in the process of restoring service,” TikTok wrote. “We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will not face penalties that provide TikTok to more than 170 million Americans and allow more than 7 million small businesses to thrive.”
The decision is “a strong stand for the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship,” the company added. “We will work with President Trump on a long-term solution that will keep TikTok in the United States.”
This came after Trump wrote on his social media app Social truth he will “issue an executive order on Monday” to extend the time period before the ban is expected to take place.

Although TikTok was closed to US users late Saturday night, and even removed from the App Store by Apple and Google, some were able to access the platform on Sunday through its mobile and desktop apps.
The law banning TikTok was put into effect on Sunday as ByteDance, the China-based owner of TikTok, had not yet sold the company to a non-Chinese entity. The Supreme Court had ruled on Friday to support the law that would ban the app and penalize third-party Internet service providers, such as Apple and Googleif they support TikTok on their platforms after the ban comes into effect.
Despite the commitment of TikTok to restore the service in the United States after the statement of Trump, the future of the company is not clear under the current law.
Trump has already stated on Social Truth that he would like the United States holds 50% ownership of TikTok in a joint venture to “keep it in good hands and let it stay”. However, ByteDance has not changed its position on having no plans to sell the company.
