David Morrell Says ‘Mexican Monster’ Persona That David Benavidez Is Just A Fake Identity And He’s Really “Fat little chicken.” WBA ‘regular’ light heavyweight champion Morel (11-0, 9 KOs) vows to “knock out” Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) to expose him as a cheater.
Morrell vs. Benavidez will headline a 12-round fight in 15 days on Feb. 1 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The event will be shown live on PBC on Prime Video PPV. Benavidez will have his interim WBC 175-pound belt on the line, which he recently won against Oleksandr Gvozdyk on June 15 of last year.
This fight will show if Benavidez is as good as he and his followers think he is or is fools gold who the naive fans were fooled all along. They want Benavidez to replace Canelo Alvarez so bad they don’t look at him with open eyes to see him fighting ham & eggers his entire career. The fans want Benavidez to be their new hero so badly that they are unwilling to recognize the blemishes that exist and that he is not the real deal.
“You are the King?” I’m coming for you. “Get out of here,” said David Morrell PPV.comspeaking of David Benavidez, who has acted like he’s the top dog in the 175lb division, but still has no credible wins and looked awful in his featherweight debut.
“I have everything.” Speed, power, defense, attack, moving feet. I have everything. I don’t know why people say he’s a ‘Monster.’ Boom. He drops 100%. I promise you I will knock him out,” said Morrell.
“‘Mexican Monster’ everything is fake. He is what we call in Cuba, ‘Little Chicken’. “Benavidez is not the same as me,” said Morel. “In Cuba, we would take his lunch money.” Such a fat kid. I don’t want to say that I’m a little miserable kid, but I mean, man, it’s different. That hunger Cubans have. I dare say that few have. I’ve been waiting for this fight for a long time. It’s more serious right now.”
Mentally alert fans saw by watching Benavidez’s last fight against 37-year-old Aleksandar Gvozdyk that he was not the fighter they thought he was. He made an effort in that fight, so he got hit in the second half.
Benavidez got hurt in the 12th and it’s lucky it didn’t happen earlier in the round because Gvozdik lit him like a candle. That was hard to watch.
Benavidez’s excuses, as he blames his terrible performance on arm injuries, don’t pass the laugh test. He wasn’t the same guy now that he was fighting where he should have been since the beginning of his career at 175, and he couldn’t handle fighting someone his size.
“I go in there and I’m fighting for my life and he’s trying to take everything from me,” David Benavidez said of Morrell. “When I look at David Morrell, I think, ‘His team, his dog, his cat and everybody there.’ My main job is to beat him, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do.”
What is Benavidez talking about? Why does he mention Morel’s dog and cat? That sounds like pure paranoia on his part to include his pets as part of his rationale for defeating him. I mean, the ‘Mexican Monster’ has the toughest opponent of his career, his first real test with someone his size, younger than him and with more power.
Benavidez has to show that it’s real and it’s not just a fake who survived all these years by giving up fighting in a weight class smaller than his massive frame and mostly picking on old guys. If he loses this fight to Morel, it just means he was a fake, and his whole career was a fake.
