Film director dies at 78, family says

David Lynch, and American filmmaker whose works include Mulholland Drive and Twin Peaks, has died aged 78.

Lynch’s death was announced on his official Facebook page by his family.

“There is a big hole in this world because he is no longer with us,” he said in the post.

“But, as they say, ‘Look at the donut, not the hole.’ …It’s a beautiful day with sunshine and blue skies all the way.”

Lynch received three best director Oscars in his career for Blue Velvet, The Elephant Man and Mulholland Drive.

His last major project was Twin Peaks: The Return, which aired in 2017, continuing the TV series that ran for two seasons in the early 1990s.

Many of his films were known for their surrealist, dreamlike style.

Eraserhead, his first release in 1977, was filled with dark, disturbing imagery.

“Although his mind has an eye for visual power, this is not surprising given what he did later,” a BBC analyst said. he said this movie in 2001.

He won the prestigious Palme d’Or award at the Cannes film festival for Wild at Heart in 1990.

His work was recognized at the Oscars in 2020 when he was awarded the prestigious Academy Award.

Lynch was revealed in August last year he was battling emphysema, a chronic lung disease, due to “years of smoking”.

The manager said that, despite being diagnosed with the disease, he was “in good shape” and “will not retire”.

But over the past few months, his condition worsened. In November interview and People magazine, said he needed air to walk.

Born in Missoula, Montana, Lynch began his career as an artist before transitioning to short films in the 1960s.
