Two killed in knife attack at school in Slovakia

Two people have died and one has been injured after a student opened fire at a school in eastern Slovakia.

Local police initially said the suspect – an 18-year-old gym student – was on the run and urged people not to approach him.

However, he was arrested shortly after. “We assure the public that everything necessary is being done to keep you safe,” the police said.

They added that the victims of the boy are two of his classmates and a teacher.

Slovak media reported that the attack took place in Spisska Stara Ves, a town of 2,000 people near the Polish border, at around 13:00 local time (12:00 GMT).

Several paramedics are responding to the scene, publicist TA3 said.
