Two Portland men died searching for Sasquatch during Christmas week, according to officials.
Around 1 a.m. on Christmas Day, the Skamania County Communications Center received a call from a family member of two people who were searching for Sasquatch and had gone missing after planning to return home on Dec. 24, according to the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO).
A “flock camera,” also known as a license plate reader, located the man’s car off Oklahoma Road, near Willard, Washington, said SCSO.
Over the course of three days, search and rescue resources, including more than 60 volunteers, dogs, drone and ground search teams and the U.S. Coast Guard’s air force searched for the men.

After an exhausting three-day search in difficult terrain and difficult weather conditions, the 59-year-old and 37-year-old from Portland, Oregon, who had been reported missing/endangered, were found, dead, in a heavily wooded area of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest,” the sheriff’s office posted on Facebook.
“Both deaths appear to be caused by exposure, based on weather conditions and poor preparation,” SCSO added.

The sheriff’s office thanked volunteers who spent Christmas week searching for the men in “freezing temperatures, snow, high water levels, heavy rain, sleet and wooded terrain,” allowing the men to be taken home to their families.
“The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office extends our deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the loved ones lost in this tragic incident,” SCSO said.

As early as 2019, a Travel Channel blog post he said Washington is “the most active region in the world” for Sasquatch sightings. Of particular note are the Blue Mountains and Okanogan County, which the Travel Channel wrote was “the site of one of the most aggressive Bigfoot encounters ever recorded.”
